I wanted to find out what the consensus is on SNMP polling of routers with large amounts of interfaces. If you have a 7513 with around 400 interfaces, what is the best method of determining interface state? I would think that traps or informs would be the best method, so that the router is not burdened with a poll every 3 to 5 minutes on every interface. I have heard that SNMP is very processor intensive. Anyone have a comment on this, or could tell me what they do on their network in this situation? If using traps, how reliable do you find them?
