Greetings,
I use "rancid" to log onto my routers every 12 hours and automatically
download and archive any configuration changes.
Rancid uses CVS to manage and track changes to configuration files, (which
is fronted via a secure CVSWEB application for easy access by the
engineers), furthermore it automatically emails out any changes made the
configurations to preconfigured email addresses (which we have fronted with
a mailman list server).
Take a look at RANCID - Really Awesome New Cisco confIg Differ -
http://www.shrubbery.net/rancid/
Rancid monitors a router's (or device's) configuration, including software
and hardware (cards, serial numbers, etc), using CVS. Rancid currently
supports Bay routers, Cisco routers, Juniper routers, Catalyst switches,
Foundry switches, Redback NASs, ADC EZT3 muxes, MRTd (and thus likely IRRd),
Alteon switches, and HP procurve switches.
Have fun.
