Do you mean DPT/SRP? If so, it is not that difficult to understand, from a support point of view. My last employer had DPT/SRP rings deployed in different cities. It made moving information around easier and less expensive. From a technical point of view I would have to reread the documentation to answer that side of the question. CCO has a few good papers on what it is and how it functions.
