You'd probably be well-served to distinguish between a mask you wish to use at each site vs. a mask used for the purposes of summarization. The interface or subinterface used as a gateway for these networks should probably incorporate your suggested mask within their respective configurations, since you do wish to maintain 2 or more layer 3 boundaries at each site. Routing protocol summarization statements should probably reflect the mask your supervisor specified, unless other, as-yet unmentioned considerations would prevent that.
