Hi all,
It's time to get started with the Big Write. What is the Big Write, you
ask? It's another community initiative, like the Big Speedydelete, in which
we're working together toward a specific common goal.
The Big Speedydelete got rid of hundreds of pages (probably over 1,000
pages) of cruft, and still left us with well over 1,000 "CZ Live" articles,
and approximately 1,800 pages total. We probably still have some cruft, but
we have a lot less. Anyway, we did this by allowing people to sign up for
particular letters of the alphabet and then mark articles with our
{{speedydelete}} tag; then constables signed up to delete the articles.
With just a little organization, we were able to efficiently review our
entire corpus in less than a week. (Well, one person has yet to finish his
letter. ;-) ) By doing this *together*, we egged each other on, so to
speak.
The Big Write is your chance to be credited with writing a medium-sized
article (750+ words) on important topics with input from some of CZ's
editors. If you look at this page:

under "The Topics," you'll see a list of a few dozen article topics you can
choose from. Those topics were specifically chosen by editors as high
priority articles in their fields. The goal is to develop those articles to
the point where they are "a credible start"--not a trivial task, but not
terribly difficult either.
I've signed up to write the "wiki" article. (Shouldn't take me long. ;-) )
What will you sign up for? You *don't* have to be an expert to write these
articles. You could even do research about a topic you don't know so much
about and write a draft, the way many encyclopedia articles in the past were
written.
Some of the (to me) tastier topics include aerodynamics, anthropology, blog,
Citizendium (?!), global warming, hemispheric lateralization, placebo,
podcast, and stress.
Let's see what we can do!
