Thanks to all of these good people for agreeing to serve in this way. This
group of people, from what I have observed, has unusually good judgment, and
most have substantial experience on the wiki itself. Just bear in mind that
if you weren't invited to join the committee, that doesn't necessarily mean
I think you aren't extremely important to the project. I did not invite
many of the most active, important members of the project, because their
input in the Editorial Council or the Constabulary is absolutely crucial.

You might notice that none of the above are members either of the Editorial
Council or the Constabulary. This is by design: we are trying to keep the
different "branches of government" separate.

According to the newly-rewritten [[CZ:Executive Committee]] page, "The
Executive Committee of the Citizendium works privately, in order to advise
the Editor-in-Chief on relatively confidential matters. This is not a Board
of Directors; we will be adding such a board hopefully in early 2008, at
which time, the Board of Directors will probably take over some issues that
the Executive Committee now discusses.

"As a rule, the Committee should handle only those matters that need to be
private--as, for example, grant proposals, partnership proposals that have
not been reviewed, major outlays, as well as the 'strategy' of the use of
the Editor-in-Chief's time. As a general rule, any policy discussions that
take place by the Executive Committee will be aimed to assist the
Editor-in-Chief in making up his own mind. Decisions or votes taken by the
Committee have no force except in the matters--primarily business
matters--that are in its special purview.

"In addition, if they volunteer to do so, Committee members might spearhead
initiatives on behalf of the Editor-in-Chief."

I hope, after finishing with the license business, to make further changes
to personnel and policy. I think the next thing I'll do is move to restaff
the Editorial Council according to a new rule that requires Council members
to be active Citizens. Then I hope we'll be able to find a new suitable
Council Chair to replace me. I'll also be at work on, finally, setting up a
dispute resolution apparatus, including a Judicial Board.

The result in general will be, I hope, a project that can operate more
vigorously independently of me, and which makes good choices.
