All, One thing I might not do enough is thank people. But then, people do so many useful things for the project, every day, that thanking them could be a full-time job!
One particular group of people I definitely don't thank enough are the technical crew. Lately, two people have deserved special mention. You might not know it, but Greg Sabino Mullane has been making all sorts of small fixes, since the start of the project, very quickly and competently. He really keeps it running. You might not see his work on the system recorded on the Recent Changes page, but he is one of our stand-bys. Greg is a professional database programmer, a veteran, and we are lucky to have him involved. Actually, I don't know what we'd do without him. The other guy who has done a lot of extremely useful technical work for us lately is Aaron Schulz, a comp sci student at my alma mater, Ohio State. Aaron created the automatic account request system for MediaWiki that we use. He has worked pretty closely over the last few months with us, and the result is a registration system that works remarkably well for us. Few or no bugs to speaks of. Aaron has also been excellent about adding some new features to the system, often very quickly. For example, he recently added functionality that allows us to approve editor applications automatically. This is a coup for us: no more waiting for people to hear about editor applications. (We really have no excuse now not to get deep into a recruitment initiative!) In addition, Zach Pruckowski helps grease the wheels, explaining stuff to me and others, giving reports about the servers, etc. The new addition to our tech team, Eric M. Gearhart, recently returned from Iraq, and has advised us and done some server stuff as well. The person who did the most technical work of anyone to get CZ off the ground, Jason Potkanski, isn't active on the project anymore, now busy with a demanding full-time job, I understand. A. Stos also does technical work, but off the server, like compiling stats and lists of unchecklisted articles, and it's always very pleasant to work with him. Other people doing or who have done useful technical work either using wiki templates or off-server include Steve Ewen (a great media template system), Robert W. King (various template work), Fredrik Johansson and Derek Harkness (skins and skin design), and probably some that I'm forgetting. Of course, we remain grateful to Chris Day for doing the very complicated coding needed to make the subpage system work. Sorry if I left anyone out (I probably did, but not intentionally!). Thanks, all! --Larry P.S. 15 articles to go to 5,000 CZ Live! _______________________________________________ Citizendium-l mailing list [email protected] https://lists.purdue.edu/mailman/listinfo/citizendium-l
