All, The Write-a-Thon is happening right now, since it is Wednesday (the first of the month) in many parts of the world. The topic of the event is "My Favourite Band." You probably have a favo(u)rite band, and we probably don't have an article about it! So, honor your musical heros!
If you don't know what the Write-a-Thon is, it's an online party! It's our excuse to show up, at least once a month, to support the cause--add to the world's wisdom, demonstrate a better way for a wiki community to organize, show off your knowledge, and above all to have fun! I have a slight variation on the monthly topic: bands you loved as a youth, but which you are now embarrassed by. I have one word for you...Styx. (Careful with that disambiguation page, Eugene...aaahh!!!) Go ahead, own up to it. Tears for Fears, Supertramp, the Monkees, Journey, Hall and Oates, Village People, the Bangles... We are 53 articles away from 8,000 articles. In spite of the usual summer slowness, we have continued to grow credibly! Let's see if we can break 8,000 by the end of the Write-a-Thon. Anyway, I will be on hand tomorrow, doing my best to add stubs (to push us over 8,000), which I never really seem to be able to produce. My would-be stubs always seem to expand... A few other notes. We'll so finally be ramping up (really!) our recruitment for Biology Week, September 22-28. That should be very exciting, and I'll be working hard in the next few weeks to make it a success. Also, I hope before too long we will be launching a new MediaWiki extension that will allow us to invite everyone with a Citizendium e-mail address to sign up for a monthly statistics report. I think this is going to tap into our deep roots and deep interest, as we saw with the phenomenal influx of Citizens last November. Finally, I'd like to say that we'll soon be calling for a new crop of constables. Please start thinking about whether you'd be interested. We can use the help, especially with Biology Week approaching. --Larry P.S.
