Hi everyone,

On behalf of the Citizendium Charter Drafting Committee, I would like to announce that the final text is ready for community ratification. This message will be the last official act of the committee. Committee members will, of course, be available to answer questions about the charter and to help people understand how particular articles in the charter apply under different circumstances. We will not, however, be making any more changes to the charter itself; it is now in entirely in the hands of the general community, where it should be. The constabulary will be handling the ratification process itself.

In anticipation of some general questions that might arise and some discussion that has already taken place, I do want to point out our general philosophy for the charter. Over the course of our work, we have discussed many, many different issues that have arisen in the past and that we expect might arise in the future. We even wrote provisions for some eventualities that were later removed from the charter text. We realized that we couldn't make rules for everything that could ever happen, so the charter doesn't specifically address everything. It is meant, instead, to provide a framework that will support people in the official positions we have designated and give them the flexibility to create the rules and procedures that will best serve the needs of the project in the future.

Thank you all for your support and your comments throughout the charter-writing process.

On behalf of the Charter Committee,
Joe Quick
