This note is relevant for CAF as we are heading to take up footpath issues..
When footpath is occupied by hawkers, pedestrians walk on the road affecting
the traffic.

On Saturday, I attended a speech by Prof. Ashwin at IIM, Bangalore, Abide
member on decongestion of traffic using big 10 busses. In fact I used bus to
reach IIM, partly using Big 10 bus from St Patrack Church on Brigade Road to
IIM.  ( be the change you want to see, and walk the talk)  I narrated my
experience of traveling in big 10 bus as suggested by Muralidhar Rao of Praja.
Since BMTC is still building capacity in this new avatar, my experiment was not
very satisfactory. But it appears that this avatar with busses in full
strength on arterial routes with grid system should ease the traffic, all
around.
Prof Ashwin of IIM certainly has made immense study on traffic issues of
Bangalore and has made recommendations to Govt. through Abide. He does it free.
I told him that Abide, being an unconstitutional Authority, should be
consulting citizens as per 74 th amendments to the constitution or Government
should discuss the proposals with the public before taking up for
implementation. Prof. said that he does not represent public good. He does it
as service to the city he lives.
Therefore, in my opinion, responsibility lies with the Government to consult,
however divergent the views are from public.
