BI Analyst Reporting to the Manager of Business Intelligence, this position works closely with the business owners, external IT Vendors and technical resources to develop and support business intelligence and reporting solutions. The BI Analyst will provide management access to critical data and reports needed for informed decision making. They will be responsible for the strategies and mechanisms that ensure that this data is timely, accurate and well formed (modeled and mapped correctly to source). There is an emphasis on communication and customer service. Job Description: Analyze and evaluate financial, underwriting and claims data in order to provide full understanding of trends and implications of the results Prepares analysis to facilitate the formation of business plans and strategies Works closely with Business Development to formulate additional research and analyses that lead to new business opportunities (market segments, channels, demographics etc) Tracks business results and identifies trends and cost saving or revenue enhancement opportunities Ensures that transaction data is fed and mapped correctly to reporting databases and structures Creation of data access routines needed to integrate Dashboards and Web-metrics with operational systems of record Supports project teams to identify and map data requirements and in the design of service oriented interfaces Manages business expectations and issue resolution Business Skills: Strong problem solving skills Analytical, creative and strategic thinking Ability to develop effective relationships with business managers and front-line knowledge workers Ability to express complex business and financial concepts effectively - both verbally and in writing Strong negotiation, facilitation and influencing skills Demonstrated ability to analyze business costs and benefits of new business opportunities Experience in insurance industry a plus Experience with analysis of consumer or customer data a plus Technical Skills: Comprehensive understanding of reporting/analysis best-practices, (presentation, assumptions, cross-tab, trending, metrics dashboards) Proven ETL skills (CastIron, BO Data Integrator, Informatica or similar) Experienced in installation and configuration of BusinessObjects (XIr3) in MS Server (2003) Design of BusinessObjects Universes using contexts and alias to resolve loops and avoid aggregation errors (traps), complex objects containing SQL code, casting, RegExp, etc Experienced in administering BusinessObjects environment, maintaining Repositories including backup and recovery and load balancing, creating user groups for users and security policies for various levels of users Experienced in designing Webi, Deski, Xcelsius and Crystal reports including the development of reports with complex formulas, tables and graphs, and summary reports with drill-through to detail reports Development background in system interfaces using J2EE or Microsoft .NET Framework Knowledge of common file structures, data access methods and data mining techniques Ability to normalize and rationalize data into common structures (ODS or Data Warehouse) Knowledge of relational databases and demonstrated ability to write complex SQL and to optimize for execution / performance.
