This work continues and we are in the planning for the upgrade from SQL 2000 and 2005 to version 2008. We have identified 328 databases that are in scope. DES uses SQL Server databases to manage session data for web applications and client server applications. DES also uses SQL server databases for production applications at the business unit level (not at the division level). For example, SQL Server supports data used by an Office of Internal Audit system (Teammate) to manage investigations. In another example, benefit integrity systems Barts and Recover use SQL Server for case management involving identification of overpayments and recovery of overpayments from claimants. This work order will be funded by federal funds and will be dedicated to support business critical production applications. This work order is essential for service delivery of the following: 1. The DBA Team has one (1) SQL Server Administrator on staff. There is no backup to that employee and there is a risk that production support may not be available at critical times. 2. We have a requirement to upgrade the SQL Server Database from versions 2000 and 2005 to version 2008. DES has more than 300 databases on 30+ servers. The majority of databases are running outdated versions not supported by Microsoft, the database manufacturer.
