*Intermediate COBOL Developer * *Length: 6 Months*
*Location: Johns Creek (Johns Creek, GA) * *Interview : F2F * Description: Under direct supervision and with assistance from more experienced and knowledgeable programmer analysts, develops, modifies, and implements basic to moderately complex information systems that are thorough and accurate and conform to MST standards. Translates customer requirements, recommending system solutions and formulating detailed specifications from which programs are written. Codes, tests, debugs, and documents assignments of low to moderate complexity. Independently researches and resolves basic to moderately complex technical problems. May serve as primary system support for one or more basic to moderately complex information systems. May establish or assist in establishing technical design goals based on customer requirements. May explore design options to help define and coordinate project scope. May research or assist in researching existing software components and technology, exploring design and infrastructure options, and recommending solutions based on customer requirements. Promotes system reuse by using process templates and application layering techniques. May perform or assist with data conversions and pre-populating operational databases. May prepare or assist with preparing the product for deployment. May work with the operational teams and user advocates to ensure an efficient deployment, rollout, and migration. May track the deployment progress, evaluate the technical implementation, coordinate team activities, and research and resolve any implementation or production problems in a timely manner. May prepare documentation on all phases of development of new systems and modification of existing systems. Keeps management well informed on a timely basis of progress, status, and concerns for each assignment. Effectively communicates ideas and information with peers, management, and customers. Performs other duties as assigned. KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS: Bachelors degree preferred. In lieu of a Bachelors degree, we will accept equivalent in education, experience, or both. Minimum of 3 to 4 years experience with these programming languages: Cobol, CICS, JCL, VSAM Experience with TSO, Endevor, CNTL-M Basic analytical, problem solving, multitasking, and time management skills with consistent attention to detail. Basic understanding of analytical techniques such as logical data modeling, and process modeling. Knowledge and skills related to additional technical tools are a plus (Visio, data modeling tools, window prototyping tools). Conceptual understanding of full life cycle development. Ability to effectively learn and use new programming concepts, tools, and methodology to support the needs of the business. Overall understanding of the MST suite of systems and their interdependence is a plus. Basic understanding of emerging technologies and systems development best practices. Basic leadership, facilitation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work across functional lines and at many levels. Basic conflict resolution, negotiation and consensus building skills. Basic presentation (written and verbal) communication skills. Ability to effectively share technical information. Basic level PC Windows skills (MS Word, MS Excel, and MS Project or other project management tools). Basic understanding of the MST Solutions Framework. Basic level of teamwork skills (communication, ability to share ideas and solutions for work challenges).
