Description: Customer has a large Vmax refresh of DMX4's for their Mainframe environment, where both the local and target DMX4's will be replaced by 8 Engine Vmax's. The data migration will be accomplished via host based dataset by dataset migration from the DMX4 to the VMAX, while consolidating the 8000 MOD3 devices, to MOD27's and/or MOD54's. The resource must have excellent Mainframe skills and knowledge to assist with the migrations. Must have experience with SRDF/A and Timefinder/Clone. They will need to convey best practices and have knowledge transfer with the client. Writing JCL scripts to accomplish what needs to be done may be required. Proposed solutions Tech refresh of the local DMX4 frame to new VMAX storage array supporting capacity growth and 2012 projects Tech refresh of DMX 4 target frame to new VMAX storage array with raw R2 storage to match the local array (spindle for spindle for SRDF/A best practice),plus Gold Copy Clone space to meet replicated R2 storage requirement. Current Challenge The current configuration is heavily weighted with small MOD3 raid 10 devices, pushing the array close to the maximum of 64,000 devices thus limiting growth and performance. Migration to VMAX will enable a reconfiguration and consolidation to MOD27 and/or MOD 54 devices, providing significant relief to the maximum device limit, supporting organic growth and new project requirements.
