Rate: Open Duration: 6 months+ Troubleshooting skills; knows how to collect pertinent information in a timely manner, make an initial assessment of the likely root cause and decide if escalation is required. Must have the ability to use available sources, vendor documentation, internet and colleagues to find solutions to problems. Linux skills; Complete understanding of boot sequence, use of text editor (vim), file system maintenance such as finding large files, permissions settings, remote access methods such as ssh. Intermediate shell scripting, variable use, control constructs and IO. Knowledge of other languages a plus such as Python or Perl. Understanding of process information sources and resources used by a process. Network troubleshooting skills, ifconfig, route, tcpdump, dig etc. Performance tool usage, top, sar etc. Communication skills: Be accurate, brief but complete and understandable. Deliver messages without being inflammatory or prejudiced.
