[email protected] *Computer Network Engineer * *Location: DC/Northern VA* *Compute Engineer Job Description * *Role * *Compute Engineer* is an individual with experience in a variety of Commercial Data Center level environments focusing on VMware, Hitachi, HP Compute (C-Class Bladesystem, DL Servers), or Cisco UCS. The position offers the right candidate the ability to have their hand in a variety of cutting edge technologies while being the primary contact for escalated support issues including Severity 1 incidents. Furthermore, this individual will be focused on converged solutions that require cross-functional skill sets while applying analytic skills to resolve issues in a predominantly SAP based architecture and transition to next generation solutions. This person will need to work closely and cohesively with the Network Engineering team(s) as well as the Application Development team(s) to troubleshoot and further develop solutions and products. *Responsibilities * *Technical * - Tier 3 business hours reactive activities as an escalation point in an established operations hierarchy with an on-call rotation. - Own the escalation resolution event, regardless of severity escalated, through to resolution. - Has at least one major technology specialty. Preferred specialty areas include Hitachi Storage, HP Blades, DataDomain, VMware Virtualization (vSphere 4.x, 5.x), Cisco UCS and Datacenter Switching (Certification preferred) - Deep technical skill set in several DC Compute and/or Storage technologies. - Participate in all aspects of the virtual infrastructure (Data Center) provisioning such as Network, Storage, CMDB, monitoring, backup, capacity planning, and proactive/reactive solutions. - Define and implement automated system installation/configuration procedures of the operational IaaS service. - Develop and integrate the tools required to control operational change across the compute stack through manual and automated processes. - Coordinating and supervising all release activities into production environments. - Automating systems monitoring tasks using standard monitoring tools. - ITIL / ETOM or Equivalent framework experience and/ or certification *Business * - Provides timely updates to the project manager and customer when requested. - Implements solutions using industry best practice but balanced with time and product resources available for project. - Contribute to planning efforts for future based project activities. - Work with cross-functional teams, such as Engineering (various), Product Management, and other key stakeholders to drive high levels of customer satisfaction. - Provides recommendations to the Senior Compute Engineer on people process and tools that could enhance service offering. - Engages in continuous learning to stay current on new and emerging datacenter technologies.
