The Database Modeler - Data Specialist is responsible for leading in all
facets of the data modeling for application enhancements and new systems of
various sizes and complexities. The Data Specialist performs many of these
tasks independently and communicates with the appropriate teams to ensure
that assignments are delivered with the highest of quality and in
accordance to standards.  The data modeling group works with application
teams to develop data structures that meet the business requirements.  In
addition to this, the group maintains the data naming glossary, enforces
naming standards, ensures metadata definitions exist for all entities and
attributes, generates efficient SQL against master data entities, and
profiles and analyzes data to help design data models.  The Data Specialist
generates the physical model and works with the DBA team for physical
implementation of the data model.


Essential Job Functions:



·         Develop conceptual, logical, and physical data models for OLTP,
DSS relational and DSS multidimensional database solutions.

·         Develop and implement strategies and methodologies in support of
Master Data Management initiatives.

·         Lead or actively participate in end-user requirement gathering
meetings

·         Facilitate modeling sessions and design walk-throughs with DBA
and development team members

·         Work with DBA to convert logical data models to physical data
models for implementation

·         Gather and maintain accurate metadata in Erwin models.

·         Work with Information Architecture team to ensure proposed
database implementation conforms to Kroger's corporate data strategy.

·         Provide operational support for existing models including impact
analysis, logical and physical data model changes and metadata updates.

·         Follow corporate best practices for Data Administration and Data
Modeling to support the corporate methodologies.

·         Write efficient SQL and store procedures against database tables
on various platforms.

·         Profile and analyze data during the application development.  Act
as a data SME for developers, testers and business analysts.

·         Tutor and mentor less experienced data models on data modeling
best practices.

·         Create and maintain the XML schema and collaborate with SOA
developers during WSDL creation a plus.
