GENERAL PURPOSE OF THE JOB

The UNIX Administrator ensures the effective and efficient delivery of 
information 
systems throughout the DaVita Village.  They will be responsible for a 
combination 
of production support and new project initiatives.  The UNIX Administrator 
will be required to install new servers, work with file structures, manage 
and monitor storage and system performance, facilitate backup jobs, and support 
a large user community in a multi-platform, multi-location environment.  Both 
hardware and OS maintenance will be performed on production, development, QA 
and training servers.  This position requires a high level of organization, 
excellent communication skills, and the ability to prioritize projects in a 
dynamic environment.  This person will help to provide management with the 
information needed to properly plan for environment growth.  Development of, 
and adherence to policies and procedures and standards is expected.  This 
position 
will report to the Manager of UNIX Systems.

 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The following duties and responsibilities generally reflect the expectations 
of this position but are not intended to be all-inclusive.

*             Analyze and apply applicable OS patches and applicable 
infrastructure 
maintenance

*             Monitor and analyze application and system performance

*             Daily review of system logs to identify, track, and report 
application 
and/or OS issues and events.

*             Analyze system utilization and trending to plan for 
system/application/storage 
growth.

*             Creates and modifies system scripts to handle automatic processes 
in the system.

*             Assists in performing and documenting procedures for disaster 
recovery purposes.

*             Perform system maintenance and upgrades on IT maintenance 
weekends.

*             Help to formulate and document standard operating procedures.

*             Create and maintain system documentation

*             Participate in an on-call rotation for after hours support.

*             Actively monitors a ticket queue for new tasks.

*             Installs and configures new hardware. 

*             Adds users and printers to the operating system as requested 
by customers.

*             Aids in installation of applications as required by development 
and application teams.

*             Performs other duties as assigned or requested by management.

*             Occasional travel will be required.

 

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 

Education, licenses, certifications, and experience required to fulfill the 
essential duties, include computer skills as required.

 

REQUIRED:

 

*             College degree in computer science or equivalent education and 
experience

*             4+ years experience with UNIX operating systems (IBM AIX, LINUX)

*             Hands on experience with Virtualization of UNIX systems

*             Shell scripting and/or Perl skills for system administration

*             Excellent Communication Skills
