*Job Tittle : Senior Network Engineer*

*Location : *Reston, VA

*Duration : 6+*

Telecommunications management:
1.            Administer the VoIP systems used at the Office of Finance,
including standard desktop phones (currently Avaya) and trader phone
turrets (IPC).
2.            Administer the voice recording system.
3.            Administer the voice mail system.
4.            Ensure the above systems are managed in compliance with
industry best practices, and are kept up-to-date with vendor-supported
updates.
5.            Document the above systems and create troubleshooting guides
and IRPs to be followed by IT helpdesk staff for troubleshooting
user-facing issues encountered with the above systems.
6.            Provide second-tier support to helpdesk on resolving
user-facing telecommunications issues.
7.            Create and maintain a Telecom Administration Procedures
Manual, including detailed descriptions of the telecom components, active
configurations of the relevant devices, and build processes for future
devices.


Network Device management
1.            Administer the Internet-facing Cisco routers at the various
Office of Finance locations, including peering relationships with the OF’s
Internet Service Providers
2.            Administer multilayer Cisco switches on the internal
networks, including managing VLANs, interface assignments, and managing
dynamic routing protocols between internal network devices
3.            Monitor and maintaining existing network infrastructure,
troubleshoot network issues and ensure optimal network behavior.
4.            Maintain and monitor network security in compliance with
FHLB-OF IT Security Policy and Security standards.
5.            Exhibit ownership of the network environment at the Office of
Finance, including the design, implementation, testing and documentation of
network devices.
6.            Create and maintain a Network Administration Procedures
Manual, including detailed descriptions of the network components, active
configurations of the relevant devices, and build processes for future
devices.
7.            Maintain organized physical cable plant.


Vendor Coordination:
1.            Coordinate installation and maintenance of telephone and data
circuits by carriers and service providers.
2.            Create and maintain an inventory of circuits provided by
various telecom vendors and carriers.
3.            Act as first point-of-contact for all carriers and service
providers.
4.            Ensure all escalation lists used by carriers and service
providers are accurate on an ongoing basis.
5.            Coordinate all services calls with external support vendors
of telecom systems at the Office of Finance.
6.            Create and maintain an inventory of all telephone extensions
within the office, including appropriate outside vendor information and
contacts.
7.            Coordinate activities for long distance services (MCI,
FTS2001) and emergency telecom programs (GETS, WPS, TSP).
8.            Coordinate activities by vendors on third-party network
infrastructure and externally-managed network assets

Network Security Management:
Act in a backup capacity to the Security Administrator on various security
systems, including:
•             Firewall / VPN management
•             Network Intrusion Detection System management
•             Change Detection Systems Management

PRINCIPAL JOB REQUIREMENTS

•             B.S in Information Systems /computer science
•             Cisco Certifications (CCNA,CCDP,CCNP ) or equivalent job
/training experience required, most recent responsibilities showing a
progression to that of a “Tier 3” Support Engineer (or similar capacity).
•             Strong understanding of Local & Wide Area Networks (LAN/WAN)
and should possess a firm grasp of TCP/IP fundamentals.
•             Understanding of dynamic routing protocols (such as BGP,
EIGRP, OSPF, etc.) required.
•             Understanding of various Voice-over-IP protocols (such as
SIP, H.323, etc.) required.
•             Attention to detail, problem solving and results oriented
skills required.
•             Ingrained troubleshooting methodology that can quickly adapt
to a heavily regulated environment
•             Knowledge of ITIL Service Model required, specifically in
incident and change management Strong written/verbal communications skills
required.
•             Minimum of two years’ experience administering
telecommunication systems in an office environment.
•             Minimum four years experience Cisco infrastructure
administration.
•             Understanding of Firewall technologies, VPN management and
Network Intrusion detection systems preferred
