SAIC supports USCIS through the Secure Enterprise Technology Infrastructure
(SETI) contract.  Part of SETI’s role is to provide USCIS operations and
maintenance (O&M) support by joining the SETI Data Center Operations team.
USCIS infrastructure extends across multiple DHS data centers, service
centers and various Cloud platforms.  Critical to the support of these
efforts is providing infrastructure platform management and operating
system engineering and administration.

The candidate shall specialize in Microsoft Windows Enterprise systems and
VMware virtualization.  Additionally, have broad knowledge and basic
skillsets of Solaris UNIX and Linux (mainly Red Hat).  Experience running
systems on storage area network (SAN) is a must.

Although the primary duties will revolve in dealing with Microsoft and
VMware systems, some limited duties may require basic troubleshooting of
Solaris and Linux systems.  Example of basic troubleshooting for Solaris
and Linux are: a) checking for disk space, b) cleaning up file systems
(e.g. temp folders), c) checking CPU/RAM utilization, d) checking event and
system logs, e) restarting services or servers, f) basic knowledge of
accessing systems thru ILOM/XSCF/ILO/DRAC/CMIC.

Primary duties include designing, building and maintaining servers and
workstations platforms in a multi-vendor environment (HP, DELL, IBM,
FlexPod, VBlock) to meet specific customer needs.   Although the
environment operates mainly in a virtual context, physical systems are part
of the infrastructure as well.  USCIS operates in a secure environment; the
candidate must have experience hardening and patching systems and must be
familiar with at least one government standard (e.g.
FISMA/NITS/DOD/DHS/etc.).

Advanced scripting skillsets are required and the candidate must
demonstrate the ability to improvise and create scripts on the fly for
various needs.  This is also in part required to support other teams in
writing Chef, Puppet, Jenkins or other deployment code to support
infrastructure automated deployments.

The candidate must have advanced and demonstrated troubleshooting skills.
He or she must be able to coordinate with other members of a matrix team to
resolve problems and implement resolutions.

Must work well with general guidance, provide competent technical input to
technical writing team for system documentation, be detailed and security
oriented.  The candidate should also be cognizant of inventory management
and be familiar with at least one lifecycle methodologies
(SDLC/Waterfall/CMMI/Agile/etc..) and IT frameworks such as ITIL.  The
candidate should have good oral and written communications skills, as well
as good interpersonal skills to deal with multiple contractors and
government organization.  Must have worked in large environments, be in
line and up to date with industry best practices, and be able to make
recommendations to improve overall governance and support continuous
improvement.

Bachelor’s degree in a computer related field is preferred. In lieu of
degree, a combination of education and a minimum of 7 years (Microsoft), 3
years (VMware) of experience in design, deployment, operations,
maintenance, script writing and managing enterprise class Microsoft systems
is required.   MCSE/MCSA (Microsoft) and VCAP5-DCA/DCD & VCAP-CIA (VMware)
highly desired.
