A. Primary Purpose of Job:

The Sr. Linux Engineer will assist in creation of best practice
methodologies, environment controls, documentation and life cycle
management of the Linux platform, particularly RHEL. Provides
recommendations for architecture, system standardization, security,
scalability, backup, patching, and management tools of Linux based
infrastructure in a highly virtualized enterprise class environment.
Provides extensive knowledge transfer to existing team members with varying
levels of Linux expertise.

B. List the major functions for this position starting with the most
important and ending with the least important. There should be a maximum of
10 functions.

1. Systems Engineering
1. Provide implementation support for Linux based projects
2. Provide tier 3 escalation incident response and tracking for Linux based
platforms
3. Provide formalized documentation, operational procedures, and training
4. Provide senior-level engineering, implementation, administration,
support and design for Linux based systems.
5. Works closely with Architect & Engineering teams to ensure knowledge of
enterprise standards and strategies ensuring solutions align with current
standards and strategies.
6. Identify areas of process improvement across existing methodologies
7. Architect systems and solutions for flexibility, scalability, and
recovery
8. Assist with proper data backup and disaster recovery planning
9. Examine existing systems or applications, proprietary features, and
native capabilities to determine equivalent capabilities in Red Hat
technologies

1. Development of Operational Support Procedures
1. Identify areas of improvement for operational efficiency, performance,
and monitoring
2. Assist in development of patching, compliance, and drift management
processes
3. Assist with development of operational procedures involving OS patching,
upgrades, security which includes but is not limited to, Red Hat Linux,
Windows 2008/2012, VMware, SQL, and Apache web services
4. Work closely with Operations team on process, training, and
documentation needs

1. Participate in Projects
1. With minimal supervision, work with project teams (all levels of QT
management and developers), determine needs and make technical
recommendations to ensure correct server and storage options are designed
and installed.
2. Fulfill the SME role through the Project Management Process (PMP).
3. Provide liaison role for project team and management.
4. Responsible for technical deliverables.
5. Provide technical expertise and advice as needed.
6. Identify risk and develop containment strategies.
7. Manage the design effort and provide design documentation.
8. Assist Project Owner with implementation, planning and execution.
9. Communicate project status to customers and project teams.

1. Problem Management
1. Provide 3rd level support, analysis and permanent documented resolutions
for server and systems issues, Communicate the status of problems and
resolutions to IOC, Help Desk and all other I/S groups and customers.
5% of total job

Indirectly supervises: N/A
D. Relationships
Inside the Company: All Information Services personnel and small percentage
of other department personnel.
Outside the Company: Hardware/software vendors, personnel in other company
data processing installations.

E. Position Specifications

The required specifications (education, experience, and skills) are those
that the employee must have to hold the position. Applicants applying for

required for the employee to hold the position but the employee should try
to obtain the desired education, experience, and/or skills to be effective
and successful in the position.

Required education: Bachelor's Degree in Computer Engineering or related
technical field or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
Desired education: A Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering and Advanced
Red Hat Enterprise Linux Certification

*Required experience:*

1.     8+ years' experience with server, storage and network systems
configuration/administration.

2.     Expert knowledge of Linux/Unix based operating systems.

3.     Must possess a strong and thorough knowledge of Active
Directory/LDAP, VMware Infrastructure and tools, and strong network
technology/topology and Operating Systems.

4.     Thorough understanding of server hardware and concepts including
services, security, and domains expert level experience troubleshooting
computer hardware/software related problems.

*Desired experience: *
Experience with large Microsoft based infrastructure and toolsets, Cisco
switching, CommVault, Citrix NetScaler, advanced scripting (including PERL,
BASH and PowerShell) and various UNIX-based operating systems.
Ability to lead junior personnel during projects and in day-to-day
operations.

*Required skills:*

5.     Very strong business communications skills, ability to work and
communicate effectively with senior management and highly technical staff.

6.     Experience in system design, documentation, implementation and
administration ofRHEL and VMware Infrastructure. Diagnostictroubleshooting
and problemsolving skills. Planning and goal setting at high and detailed
levels; ability to implement technical strategy and design solutions to
meet thatstrategy. Ability to solve problems independently, quickly then
communicate them clearly to management. Needs to be able to work in a team
environment.

7.     Ability translate business needs into technical solutions.

8.     Must be able to take the initiative and to work without direct
supervision.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
This job requires the worker to sit to perform the majority of work duties.
His/her office is set up so that the majority of work duties are performed
in a sitting position (i.e. computer, telephone). He/she is required to
hold items such as writing utensils, computer printouts and cds, etc.
He/she is required to place computer cds into the computer, etc. He/she is
required to lift and/or push equipment to be moved for repair. Worker must
be able to report for work on time. Worker must be able to breathe
(unassisted) to accomplish tasks via telephone.

MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
Worker must be able to concentrate and perform work with many interruptions
(persons and telephone). He/she must be able to conceptualize work
delegated by his/her supervisor in order to complete it correctly. Worker
must learn new processes as QuikTrip changes (new computer and software
programs). He/she must reason, think through and solve problems. Worker
must maintain his/her composure with internal and external customers.

Must have knowledge of many areas and be able to switch between them
rapidly. Must be able to work under pressure and provide guidance to
Information Services users during crisis modes.
