The SPLUNK Engineer's responsibilities include
· Design solutions and concepts for data aggregation and
visualization.
· Build Splunk apps from ground up for Splunk to interact with 3rd
party software/hardware.
· Splunk deployment, configuration and maintenance across a variety
of UNIX and Windows platforms.
· Populate Splunk from 3rd party data sources (i.e. bash/python
scripts/SQL DB/APIs).
· Develop reliable, efficient queries that will feed custom Alert,
Dashboards and Reports.
· Design and maintain production-quality dashboards.
· Participate in design discussions and author design documentation.
· Map design artifacts to system requirements.
· Troubleshoot Splunk server problems and issues.
· Solve complex Splunk Integration challenges.
· Debug complex Splunk configuration issues.
Communicate with peers and supervisors routinely, document work,
meetings, and decisions
· Splunk deployment, configuration and maintenance across a variety
of UNIX and Windows platforms.
· Experience in administrating the Splunk apps, index management,
forwarder functionality, manipulating raw data, user roles and
authentications
· Experience in using scripting languages to automate tasks and
manipulate data.
· Experience customizing applications and dashboards.
· Working understanding of Solaris, Linux and Windows operating
systems.
· Proficiency in any object oriented programming language is a plus.
· Ability to program in Python, Perl, Shell is desirable.
· Familiarity with Java-based server applications & logging
frameworks.
· Exposure to database technologies such as SQL, MySQL, Oracle.
· Understanding of Network Firewalls, Load-balancers, and complex
network designs.
· Experience with search terms, ability to do correlation between
data sets, data indexing.
· Understanding of enterprise logging, with a focus on application
logging.
· Understanding of regular expressions.
· Mentor and train Splunk users and administrators.
Outstanding verbal and written communication is a must.
