That's what I was wondering.  I have gone through just about everything, I 
think I figured one method out but it isn't exactly what I wanted.  I am just 
not sure exactly which code to put in there to make it work.  I have a few 
other issues but I think most of those are trivial.

I am wondering if there is a way to set a default service on new customers 
added to the DB.  I have tried several different methods and nothing is seeming 
to work.  Perhaps I have just stared at all the code too long to see it.

No, there isn't a way to add a default service to new customers.  This
type of option would need to be coded in there, probably into the
modules/customer/create.php file.
