Dear All:
Sorry to jump in late on this thread, but it seems to me that any cittern
or English guittar that does NOT have a pronounced "ringing on" of its
metal strings would be an inferior or flawed instrument. The ringing sound
strikes me as an essential element, not a deficiency.
This is in contrast, by the way, to some modern bass strings on the lute
(especially the baroque lute), which do create problems with ringing, as
opposed to gut.
