I took the opportunity of the Second Waldzither Symposium to
introduce my tutor for 18th-century cittern, which is finally ready.
All of the music and exercises are presented in tablature for a 6-
course instrument, plus standard notation for tunings in C or G, so
the music is playable on any 6-course instrument tuned
appropriately. Of course with the modern notation in two keys,
anyone who can read it can play the pieces on their instrument of
choice, in the tuning of their choice. 90% of the music is from the
18th-century cittern repertoire, with some transcriptions of earlier
music at the end. Part of the idea behind this book is to show how
varied the original repertoire is, and how versatile the 18th-century
cittern and its open tuning can be. Shamefully, I have yet to put up
my own website, but if anyone would like more information, do get in
touch.
