Making loops is easy. Loop the string around itself with about an  
inch and a half to spare.  If you have a large eye bolt or hook to  
wrap the string around, that makes it easier.  You simply need to  
twist the string around itself making certain that it actually twists  
rather than one strand wrapping around the other. Four or five twists  
will do it.  Then wrap the short end around the end of the twisted  
part a couple of times and cut off the excess.  That's all there is  
to it.  I've got used to doing it with my fingers now, but have used  
a small vise for holding the loose ends, turning the eyebolt.  I've  
also held the ends with vise grips or pliers.  A lot depends on the  
stiffness of the wire.

To judge the length, screw the tuner down to the shortest point and  
wrap the string around the hook - not too tightly.
