A mysterious lurker who wrote to me off list writes: "The tuning pegs might portray Bremner and Geminiani's guittar. Look at their diagrams: 3 double treble courses and three single bass courses. Nice to see an instrument with this apparent set up."
I had a look, and s/he's right - nine strings in six courses. I haven't seen too many instruments with this set up, though. The last time I was in Paris I saw, let's say, an English-size (as opposed to a larger) instrument with 10 strings arranged in seven courses - four single basses. I'm currently using plain brass on my fourth course - anyone else? Doc To get on or off this list see list information at http://www.cs.dartmouth.edu/~wbc/lute-admin/index.html
