Hi Citternophiles,

Ben Hebbert, the guy from Christie's, sent me these photos of the
recently-sold ($180,000 to the Shrine to Music Museum in S. Dakota)
probably-English cittern, to pass out to the cittern community.

I'll be back in a couple days with basic measurements. I'm also
working on a fairly basic drawing.

Hi Ben,

Hope you had an exciting auction today. Sorry i couldn't go. Did
anyone purchase that cittern? I've made a fairly crude drawing of it
that you're welcome to a copy of.

If you could send front back and side photos of the cittern, I could
disseminate them (if that's the word I'm looking for) to the internet
cittern group; my photos are mostly close-ups and/or blurry.

The more I think about it, the more like an English viol that
instrument seems, esp the carving at the heel and pegbox.
I did get a bit of a look at the label with my camera. The P is
definitely there. It looks to be stamped. There's also something that
looks like cca or tta at the end of that line. It looks like P######
#####cca. Petrarca! And down in the right corner is written what
might be 1593 or 1993 or maybe 1693. Or maybe it isn't a 3?? Take a
look if you still have the instrument...
