Now, this site I have bookmarked on my computer: http://www.studia-instrumentorum.de/MUSEUM/katalog_zistern.htm shows at least two other orpharions. Can someone enlighten me? 19th century copies? Lost instruments? Christopher, I also have that site bookmarked! There's only one instrument there designated as an orpharion, and one as a penorcon. Under the heading "Herkunft" (provenience) it says, in both cases: "offensichtlich Kopie zu Schauzwecken, in der Werkstatt des Musikhistorischen Museums von Wilhelm Heyer in K=F6ln angefertigt" which means: "apparently a copy for exhibition purposes, made in the workshop of the Museum of the History of Music by Wilhelm Heyer in Cologne" When the copy was made - and what it is a copy of - is not stated, but the earliest cited reference to it is dated 1912. Hope this helps, Cheers, John (Sworn Translator for English and German - so it's official! ;-) -- To get on or off this list see list information at http://www.cs.dartmouth.edu/~wbc/lute-admin/index.html
