thanks. i've resolved the problem by myself. below are details you
may like to know:

i am using CTeX under Windows XP. the failed file is ctex-faq which
you can find at
http://svn.ctex.org/aloft/Documentation/CTeX-FAQ/trunk/. the fonts
was installed in CTeX by CTeX's lastest font package, and the problem
is dvipdfm(x) need use truetype fonts such as simkai.ttf when running,
but my XP gets only two Chinese truetype fonts, simsun.ttc and
simhei.tfc, after copyied a simkai.ttf from another computer into my
windows/Fonts, the dvipdfmx successed.

it's so suprising that dvipdfmx will locate font files outside texmf
root directory!

thank you anyway!

across the current.
