Leah,
It all depends on what you have and where you need to go to improve your
line without sacrificing health, temperament, and structure. I have only 4
dogs of which 1 is spayed and the other is a stud dog. I have two bitches
that are to move me forward in breeding as closely to the standard as I can
without losing what I like about each bitch. I have one that is the ideal
toy spaniel size so I do not want to go to an over size dog, no matter what
the color. She has the movement I want which means sound structure, nice
round d.eyes, sweet melting face, and parents, grandparents and
great-grandparents with heart clear history well into their teens. I would
like a little more cushion and darker nose. My other girl is up in size and
not as feminine in the head as I would like but is of sound movement. So, I
need to improve her size and type. I am not a large kennel and never will
be,,,, so each breeding is planned very carefully and I will only keep
something if it is better than what I have now. To make my love of the sport
even more of a challenge, I breed and show wholecolors. I hope this is
helpful.

Subject: [CKCS-L] fault question
>I am curious to hear how some of you measure the degree of faults in
Cavaliers. I am interested to learn what other breeders can and cannot
abide. Define between usable for breeding and acceptable in the show ring.
We all know there is a difference.
>For example, it goes without saying I would never even concider a dog who
was agressive.
>What about less then perfect eyes, too light obviously almond shaped,
buggey?
>Poor ear set, too low or dome headed?
>Or how much white is too much on a whole colour. Flecking in a broken
colour?
>Size does matter.
>Curl in the coat, when does it go from wavey to an actual curl?
>Structural faults.
>etc...
>There are no perfect dogs.
