Many thanks for all the info regarding the Millenium book I have passed it all on to
the people who wanted one and I am sure they will obtain a copy.
I was interested in the posts regarding a 'startled' look. My theory is that it comes
from the time when the English Toy Spaniel was being developed from the original
Cavalier. . One of the breeds used could have been the Japanese Spaniel from which the
English Toy would have aquired not only the startled look but gay tails and reduced
size as well as the desired shortened muzzle. The gay tail would not have been a factor
as English Toys were docked.
When the Cavalier was being reconstituted these characteristics would still be in the
gene pool.
.Anyone who has bred Tri-colours for any period of time has seen small tri's with
either very little or no tan and a very gay tail seemingly regardless of parentage.
It's just a theory of mine because a parti coloured peke could just as easily been
used ( yes they do exist ) and don't forget all those years ago there was not so much
emphasis placed on pedigree and authenticity of parenthood as there is today. It
should would explain where a lot of unexpected things that pop up from time to time in
breedings comes from.
Just my theories which I am now waiting to be shot down in flames for!
