Hello ALl, regarding the dog acting aggressively in some situations. The fence fighting with the neighbor dog is quite common. The method of correction is probably sufficient to stop the escalation. Getting wet isn't much fun. Another option is a citronel collar which corrects when you arent holding the hose. This can also be hung on the fence as it is noise triggered. The fact the dog only performs when mom and dad are around is a very strong indication that the dog has learned this behavior. May of been based in some insecurity, but has developed into a behavior through the owners unintentiona reinforing of the behavior. They could of thought they were consoling the distraught dog buy "there there dear" and lots of patting, Which in doggy means the same as yes go for it I approve. I have had great success using clicker training to modify behavior in "Dog Agressive" dogs. In actuality there are very very few truely dog or people agressive dogs. There is a behaviorist named Sheryl Smith who does seminars on agression. Get a Gentle Leader head collar, not a Halti. The GL is a great training aid and helps curtail pulling. BUT if the handler is used to keeping a tight leash they will do the same with the GL and can impair the dogs breathing. Mind the same can be said for a dog pulling on any collar. I suggest saving your doggy dollars and trying a training facility experienced in clicker training and behaviour modification. The reason I suggest using clicker as it keeps the owners hands off the dog, and stops the unintentional communication of stress and anxiety. Coersive types of training can work, give an instant fix. But in many cases, it just results in more agressive behaviors and injury to the dogs neck. Leah Swatko Ministik Reg.
