Frankly, I can't believe that anyone who would publicly state that he or she is
involved with Cavalier King Charles Spaniels would also state that he or she is a PETA
type.
Someone, somewhere, has missed the boat. PETA is not after the puppy mills, folks,
they are after US - they are after ANYONE who even owns a dog! Aligning oneself with
any of those Animal Rights groups shows only that no research at all has been done.
We all wish AKC could stop puppymills. We all wish the organization would try harder.
As Carol has stated, by making it more difficult to register litters, all the AKC
accomplished was to drive these millers to form their own registries, or to at the
least register with some other group.
I sent that post to the list so that people could voice their opposition to the
AKC, not to one another here on the list. It is time to stop blaming the AKC for
Cavaliers being in puppy mills; they were there long before the breed received AKC
recognition. Not all the dogs in puppy mills have their origins in Ireland,
either...there are names in those pedigrees where the kennel affix appears in the
CKCSC-USA yearbook.
Finally, while it is wonderful to attend auctions and save some of the poor
Cavaliers that appear there, and while I wouldn't stop it for the world, I do not see
how buying a dog at any auction discourages the millers in any way. They don't care
who bought the dog, they just count the cash. Rescue, schmescue.....it's all the same
to them.
And, while I'm at it, there is no such thing as the National AKC registry.
