It never ceases to amaze me how folks can be so hurtful to one another,
especially with people they know by name and reputation only. I have come to
shun National Club memberships (of any kind) as a result of this. If I am going
to join and be active in a club, I want to be in direct contact and really know
the people I am working for and with.
Several years back, my mother in law was routed from a National Club (another
breed) after 30 years of devotion to the breed and club, both on a local and
national level. Interestingly, she received the letter from the national board
revoking her national club membership citing ethical issues pertaining to
clearances, numbers and overseas sales the day after she had been honored with
the Lifetime Service Award from the local club! Equally interesting was that no
one on the national board had EVER been to her kennel and home (despite her open
invitation to them ) or asked to review her records. She had, in fact, met only a
very few of these people in person. Thirty years of faithfulness was swept away
by a group of strangers-she was incredibly hurt by this. I had resigned this same
national club several years earlier for my own reasons, but had continued to
participate in events. I now can't stomach attending a National Specialty. I
choose to remain with the local club and the folks I know and love (or not!)...at
least I've had dinner with most of these people and can judge them by their table
manners!
The twelve who joined to form the AKC parent club had their reasons-I know that
I had my reasons for not continuing my CKCSC membership (lack of local shows,
already involved in another AKC breed, wanted to breed to a non-CKCSC stud) just
at "old club" folks have their reasons for staying. The hurt of the upswing,
however, is probably too much to be overcome in this generation. I know that, as
of yet, I cannot forgive those people who attacked my mother in law's reputation
so viciously. I think we will have to wait quite a while for this rift to mend.
Meanwhile lets only be snide about the people we KNOW chew with their mouths
open!
