IMPORTS the people showing AKC are buying are inferior to the imports the
CKCSC people are buying?

There is nothing strange or unusual about this statement. You don't have to
search for an answer. It is very easy to see why. After having been to
hundreds of AKC shows and CKCSC shows I believe about 10% of the dogs at
every show are of superior quality and about 50% are competitive show
quality.

If you attend an average AKC show with 10 entries, this means 5 will be
competitive show quality and maybe 1 will be of superior quality. If there
are 20 entries, this means 10 will be competitive show quality and about 2
will be of superior quality.

If you attend an average CKCSC show with 180 entries, this means 90 will be
competitive show quality and about 18 will be of superior quality.

Whichever way you look at it 90 is a lot more than 5 or 10, and 18 is a lot
more than 1 or 2. The numbers are MUCH higher. It is much easier to learn
breed type when you can get an extended look at 90 show quality dogs in a
day of which 18 are superior than to see a few minute glimpse of 5 or 10
show quality dogs of which only 1 or 2 are superior. As Suze and I
mentioned, going to England is also a great way to learn. Somehow I doubt
many go to England more than once a year though!

And to combine several queries. We have been able to show neutered/spayed
dogs for a few years. In actuality there are very few being shown at any
time--in fact I'm not even sure one is shown at every single show--if you
leave out the veterans classes. I doubt you ever see many altered dogs
being shown competitively. People just don't bother.

As for pets being shown (to whomever mentioned that one)--do you mean that
people are specifically showing pets just for fun? Or do you mean a dog is
being shown that was specifically purchased/kept as a show dog but it is not
turning out to be show quality--just pet quality? I'm asking because I
carefully looked over the Greensburg catalogue and there wasn't a single
*pet* entered in that show. Every single entry was owned and/or bred by
bona fide show people who are serious about the breed. Maybe they weren't
the quality hoped for, but you can't always get what you want!
