In today's mail I found the new issue of our (American) weekly "Dog News." I thought
it wildly coincidental that there were several articles that
addressed topics that had been discussed on this list within the past week or so...and
one that addressed a topic that has been discussed on another
list!
First was an article about what constitutes a "professional handler," written by a
former ph,now judge...the last sentence is "Ignoring
compensation, one must earn the right to be called "Professional" in whatever avenue
you wish to pursue." It's a great article.
There were several different articles and/or sections that spoke to the business
of the AKC and commercial puppy breeders.....
Andrew Brace wrote about depth of quality in several breeds in the UK...I quote:
"When I last judged Cavaliers, of 120 dogs, I would say that 10% were sufficiently
outstanding to carry their Championship titles."
That made me think of last week's heated discussions about whether there were as
many good AKC-only dogs as old club dogs. I guess it's all in
the eye of the beholder.
Not trying to start the argument over again, and each person here is entitled to
disagree with Andrew....but that's what he wrote.
In the "You Be The Judge" segment, there appeared the sentence "She moves well for
a dog but not for a Dobe." Apply that where you will...the
statement was referring to a dog with too long a body and short legs......
Finally, there continues to be reference to material shared from a closed, private
list...
I keep wondering why the people who shared the material were not punished by being
removed from the list?
Just a coincidence that these things have also been discussed here and on other
email lists. Shows what a small world this is...either that or
everyone's in the same mindtrack!
