I most definitely see great variations in how different lines develop. Very
different time tables. The only answer is to learn from experience--either
your own or someone elses. There are dogs from certain lines who produce
puppies with wonderful bone who nearly always grow up to not have any. And
dogs from certain lines who produce puppies with no bone that nearly always
grow up with plenty. Dogs who produce puppies with wonderful heads that end
up too snipey and refined and dogs that produce puppies with slightly
lacking heads who grow up to be gorgeous.
There are some lines where the dogs just do not look all that good until
they are 8-10 months old (or older) and others that look great as a puppy
and stay that way and still others that look wonderful as a puppy and ugly
as an adult. Just as in humans they all mature and develop at different
rates.
