Amen to that, Carol!! It's really easy to discuss most aspects of
dog breeding with a horse person. One example I can share was when I
was watching a dog move around the show ring.. My friend and I were
watching, we leaned closer to each other to whisper (ring side talking
should be discreet, even if saying positive things) about one dog. "He'd
be easy to sit a trot." I said, she nodded in agreement. "And you could
probably 3-day-event with him, wow, look how he's put together! His sire
was built like that, too." she added.
Okay, so maybe it'd require a considerably smaller saddle and
rider for the German Shorthaired Pointer we were looking at, but, yup,
there's an 'eye' that horse people (more than the casually involved)
develop, and for a good reason. With larger stakes in their breeding
plans, they take more time to truly research what their choices might
yield as far as babies. Or rather babY, as in singular! One baby per
year+, one choice, and another year at least to try again if your goal
isn't achieved with that baby. It takes HOW long to bring along a horse
to maturity and readiness to utilize what it was bred for? Horse people
understand structure, breeding/genetics, and well, Carol said it all. I
think horses and Cavaliers are a hand-in-hand situation. But then,
perhaps only horsey people would understand the connection?!?
cheers,
Sandra
