I agree Jackie...first you select a dog that represent the type and conformation of a 
true CKCS (or should I say...the type you prefer, since there are many types that are 
consider "true" yet may not be your type or compliment the bloodlines you are working 
with)...than you test for health related issues and breed those "health cleared" typey 
dogs in hope of a good sound foundation.

Evaluating does not end with an individual's foundation...this must be an on-going 
process...that includes health, type, conformation and temperment...of all adult CKCSs 
and their offspring. It is a continual refining process...

I agree...That it is an equal destructive problem in the breed, if individuals are 
"health testing" yet not breeding true to the breed endearing charactistics...in other 
words a "ugly dog" or "tempermental dog"..

The ultimate goal is to fulfill the dream of producing the "whole package"...
