Hi -

I haven't really been paying attention to this thread, but when I saw
the name "Annie", something clicked. I have a friend (acquaintance)
named Liz Teel who is an evaluator for the Delta Society. She lives in
NYC and is also very active with the ASPCA. She was the first one to
certify Bentley in 1997 as a Therapy Dog. She was so enthralled with
Cavaliers (I think she was a Lab person )that she bought one! She & I
were recently co-speakers at a Therapy Dog Luncheon and she shared her
frustration at trying to get a program together through the Red Cross to
use us (Delta Certified Therapy Dogs) to visit the Centers where people
were waiting in long lines and were generally just frazzled. She
figured out in short order that even though dogs are Certified, they can
be certified through many different organizations and other than Search
& Rescue, none of the various organizations have a "central clearing
house" such as the Red Cross, to validate and identify the volunteers.
That's what she has been working on since September 11th. Looks like
she has succeeded! Our next program will be Pet Therapy in Crisis Situations.
