My oldest cavalier takes an injection called Adequan. It is spunned down bovine trachea that goes to the area of "weakness". Being from Kentucky, Adequan has been used in race horses for quite a few years and became available to small animals just a few years ago My Chelsea has severe hip dysplasia and has used Adequan since diagnosed at the age of 4. To start she got one injection each week for a month then she gets one every month. At the age of 11 1/2 my vet looks at her x-rays and says I don't see how she is still walking. She does take either a baby aspirin or Rimadyl for painful flares.
