Tomorrow is the day we Americans call Thanksgiving Day. It is a holiday that was set
aside for us to think of our blessings, and of all the things we are supposed to be
thankful for. Most of us look at it as a day to eat more than we should, but this
year, more than ever, I hope everyone will look around at their friends, their
families, and yes, their dogs, and thank God that we are all still here, in spite
of the terrorist attacks just a few weeks ago.
We sat in front of our television sets in shock for days, some of us hugging our
kids, our husbands, our fathers and mothers, our wives, our significant others, and
often, our pets. We watched the search and rescue dogs, we cried for the lost lives,
and we got on our computers and shared our thoughts. The listmates from other
countries offered their prayers and support, and we thanked them. Many of our
listmates in other countries can remember living through wars and wartime in their own
countries; we here in the USA have not had to do that, not on our own soil. The only
time we had anything like that here was in the 1860s, and I dare say no one alive
today can remember back quite that far.
I just want to say to all of you, look around you tomorrow and remember those who
died in the terrorist attacks, and say a prayer for them. Give thanks that you have
what you do: people who love you, the freedom to have wonderful friends and the dogs
and cats and whatever you want in your lives, and pray to God that our country will
prevail.
