Hi Carol:

Thanks for the clarification. I thought that you were only doing the
regular AI's and you are right they are very easy once you learn under a
proficient and experienced teacher. As far as the collection of the dog, yes,
I have seen some vet's that were very unadept and it really is easier to
collect you own dog. They are more comfortable with their owners for sure.
I can understand there is no issue with a fresh AI but when I have done
fresh chilled extended there is a AKC form that must be filled out. I will
call AKC and see if they require a Vet or if the two people doing the AI can
sign the form. No I wasn't using a vet expressly for identification of the
dogs. I was just complying with the AKC regulation for DNA of the stud dog
when using Fresh Chilled or frozen. Now the AKC has added that frequently
used stud dogs must be DNA. As far as knowing and identifing my dogs, my
vet knows them all anyway with or without the DNA. I agree that there must
be mutual trust between the bitch and the stud owner and really wasn't
thinking about that , as much as the paperwork issue. I can remember the
first time I asked about doing an AI and my vet at the time had no idea what
he was doing but he said he would try. That scared me enough that I found a
breeder vet who knows his limitations but is very experienced in repro work.
When he is not sure I use my repro vet and she is great. Anyway, I am
definitely for reducing the fees for this without jeopardizing any liability
issues.

I have to mention Carol I know how hard it is for you Bulldog people. Back
in the early 70's I worked for a physican who bred bulldogs and I scheduled
all of the AI's and the c-sections for him. So, I know it wasn't easy
finding vets that were very proficient at repro or even wanted to practice
it. I know my boss did many of the things himself, so I definitely respect
where you are coming from.

Take Care,
Tina
