I have only had two c-sections in the years I have breeding Cavaliers. One of these resulted in seven beautiful puppies all of whom survived by being tube fed as their mother did not have any milk.I used Esbilac and after being taught how to tube feed by my Vet and referring to Anne Seranne's book 'How To Breed Your Own Show Dog' found the procedure quite easy. I would not hesitate to use tube feeding as a method of either topping a small puppy up or as a complete source of food for puppies. When you have seven hungry mouths to feed a bottle is so time consuming that by the time you have finished puppy number seven the first pup needs feeding again.I know, I tried it and at two o'clock in the morning a tube feeding of seven is much preferable and goes remarkably quickly. My litter were all weaned off the tube feeding by three and a half weeks. They were all happy healthy puppies, well socialised and today you could not tell them from a litter naturally raised. I was lucky in that their mother in true Cavalier fashion loved and cuddled her babies even though she was not feeling too well at the time and did not have any milk. Both of the girls that had a c-section were not bred from again and were spayed. A couple of the females from their litters have been bred from and both have had normal deliveries. There is an update on my web page if you are interested. _________________ Angela M. Thomas Charlemere Cavaliers Victoria BC CANADA
