I'm relatively new to this list as well as new to cavaliers. I've been lurking in the background, as will likely be my habit. I'll come out of lurk mode when a question I have seems to be related also to discussions I am following here.
That said, it really is of interest to me who the great cavaliers have been -- dogs AND bitches. I recently finished reading Barbara Garnett-Smith's book (recommended by this list), and am in the process of reading a book by Coile. The first book presents a very interesting history of the breed in Canada and the USA, and the prominent UK kennels from which many lines came. It also presents some prominent cavaliers complete with pictures toward the end. The second book mentions that during WWII, most Cavaliers were destroyed, leaving six dogs as "the foundation from whom all modern Cavaliers descend." So who were these six dogs? When listmembers began mentioning "great studs" and "great dogs", I began to wonder. It seems all of you know which cavaliers are being referred to, but I am left in the dark about this. Would you all be willing to humor a newcomer and fill me in? I would appreciate it so very much.
