I am not sure if many people remember, but several years back I put out a
post about one of my dogs swallowing a rock. He had extensive and very
costly surgery to have it to removed. The vet had given me the rock in a
little plastic bag saying it was too valuable for him to discard. So I kept
it. I always had the intention of finding someone to paint his picture on
it. Several months ago I approached Judy Gates who is a very accomplished
artist. She was not used to doing art work on something that was small.
But I do believe she was fascinated by the challenge. The rock (which is
flat and about 1 inch in size) along with several pictures were sent to her
with the understanding that I would put no pressure on her. The painted
rock arrived today (in a huge secure box along with the photographs ). She
did the most magnificent job, the likeness is astounding. For what it is
worth, do not let Judy's strong personality get in the way of her talent.
She is a gem as far as her knowledge in capturing and understanding the
breed. And she was more than reasonable in her pricing. I am not meaning
for this to sound like an advertisement, but I could not be more pleased
that it was her I approached for doing this wonderful little painting for
me.
