Hello,

It was hard to read the post about the Cavalier and the Boxer and not reply
with my own story in kind...about my 1 year old Cavalier, Tory and our 3 year
old Bernese Mountain Dog, Barron. Tory adores Barron and is constantly
licking Barron's muzzle, mouth and generally saying in doggy language, "I
know you're the Alpha here" and actually I think Tory wants to "grow up" and
be a Berner (if he doesn't stop begging for treats, they may weigh the same
someday....lol). Tory follows Barron around the yard, mimics his every
behavior and learned "sit" and "down" by watching Barron do it. They are
fabulous pals, and the fact that they "look alike" (black heads, white blaze
and ruby brows) is a bonus, and very confusing to folks who see them together
and are not knowledgable about breeds -- we often hear, "oh, look at the St.
Bernard and its cute puppy" -- two funny mistakes in one sentence - lol.
But, I don't take offense -- some people just are not dog smart.

Our Tory also loves our cats and insists on grooming them, and they adore his
attention, purring loudest when he is around and rubbing against him with
body and tails and marking him as their own. Its always a delight observing
the animal world and their interactions, isn't it?

It is doubly ironic for me to remember that when I was shopping for a
Cavalier to add to my home just for the purpose of having a "love muffin" I
was told very abruptly by several Cav breeders that they would NEVER consider
my home a good one for their puppy because of my Berner, without having any
knowledge of Barron or his wonderful temperament. I think it just goes to
show that each "adoption" situation is unique and each family needs to be
given due consideration (yes, even those with children - I have three) before
pat decisions are made concerning who is or is not a good match. Just for
the record, my Berner sleeps in the laundry room on a large bed, my Cavalier
sleeps with me, on MY pillow (he always gets there first, it seems) on an
even larger bed, and he snores louder than my spouse, but we love him and
endure.
