OT - great, and sad, family news...

Hello, everyone;

Im greatly saddened to have to say that my grandmother passed away this
afternoon; but, after 92+ years of a wonderful adventure- and family- filled life
I know that she had no regrets. It has been hardest on my grandfather, of
course, to have watched his wife of 71 years decline so rapidly in the last two
weeks.

One of the last times I went to visit her (in the care facility at the retirement
community in which they live) I took Tilly (Cavalier) in with me. Not only was
she very well received by the nursing staff and other residents or patients, but
my grandmother was aware enough to hold and pet Tilly. I think that
snuggling with that 15 pounds of love and fluff was very good for Grandma. It
was rewarding to see those aged and shaky hands tenderly stroking the dog,
and see the smiles on the face that has been a bit vacant in the last several
days. It brought my grandfather to tears; but then when it was his turn to hold
Tilly he was all smiles and hugs. The comfort spaniel does it again, what a
wonderful girl she is... I brought a Sherpa bag in with me, so that I could put
Tilly away to help Grandma try to eat one of her last meals. The pupster didnt
know how much of a welcome brightness she brought to a few people in that
convalescent facility that night!

On a good note - and it couldnt have come at a more emotionally needy time -
my daughters soccer team won the new years indoor tournament today (yay
team!), and Brittany was named Player of the Tournament, and her coach
gave the trophy to her! Wow, that was exciting news. Couldve been the
numerous assists, or the 6 goals she scored, but it sounds like she played
some awesome games.

Just wanted to share, sorry for the OT sad news, but somehow it lightens the
heavy burden to share with friends... Thanks to those that have written to me
recently about my grandmother, the words have been very comforting.

Sandra

Rest in Peace, Grandma
