In this month's AKC GAZETTE there is a very interesting article called "The
Year in Numbers." Cavalier registrations have jumped in the US almost 33% in
2001 over 2000. In 2000 there were 2,719 individual dogs and 1,080 litters
registered.
In 2001 those numbers jumped to 3,612 individual cavaliers and 1,311 litters
registered.
Comparing all breed in the US in popularity based on registrations, the
popularity of our breed was up from 51st place for Litters to 47th.
As for individual cavaliers registered, the breed jumped from 54th to 44th.
These are AKC numbers and not CKCSC-USA numbers. But it seems most USA club
dogs are also registered with the AKC.
There is a very long way to go to be #1 in popularity as is the Labrador with
165,970 dogs registered in 2001.
However, while most of us think the Cavaliers are the BEST dogs in the world,
I'm sure none of us want to see breading get out of hand.
We must all be sure our babies do not end up in the wrong hands of the Mill
Owners.
Only careful placement of the puppies will save the breed from the down falls
of other breeds.
